Weight loss surgery is a tool to help you achieve significant weight loss and improve your health, but it requires a lifelong commitment to maintaining a healthy lifestyle. Our team at Texas Advanced Surgical and Bariatrics is dedicated to supporting you throughout this journey, from the initial consultation through post-operative care and beyond.
Your dietitian will be your nutritional coach throughout this process! Depending on your insurance requirements, you’ll meet monthly to ensure you’re on track with your health goals.
Before surgery, you may need clearance from specialists like cardiologists, pulmonologists, or endocrinologists. Don’t worry—we’ll guide you through every step to make sure all your bases are covered.
Once we’ve collected all your medical clearances, our office will submit everything to your insurance provider for final approval. This process may take some time, but rest assured, we’re on it! This does not apply to for those whom are self-pay.
Three to four weeks before your surgery date, you’ll meet with your surgeon to review final details, receive surgery prep instructions, and complete any last-minute tests. You’ll also have an appointment with the anesthesia team for surgical clearance.
The big day is almost here! Call us the day before (or the Friday before if your surgery is on a Monday) to confirm your arrival time. And don’t forget to follow the pre-op instructions your surgeon provided!

In the end, you along with your surgeon will be able to answer that question. Every case is different and while some patients enjoy great success after surgery, there are many potential patients on whom we never operate because they are not ideal candidates. Your particular health situation, your willingness to work hard to lose weight, and the results of your testing will let us know if surgery is right for you.
Bariatric surgery, like any other surgery, carries some risks, which should be carefully discussed with your primary physician and our surgeon. However, in certain cases, the surgical risks of bariatric surgery may be lower than the risks of living with obesity and its related co-morbidities. For these patients, surgery becomes an ideal option. Over the past decade, complication and mortality rates have significantly decreased, particularly with the advancement of laparoscopic techniques, which have further minimized surgery-related complications.
