Dr. Joel A. Rodriguez returned to his hometown of San Antonio in 2014 and founded Texas Advanced Surgical and Bariatrics (TASB) to expand access to advanced, minimally invasive surgical techniques, with a particular focus on robotic surgery. He is board-certified by the American Board of Surgery and is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons. He has performed more than 3,000 robotic abdominal operations.

Dr. Rodriguez earned his undergraduate degree from Princeton University before completing medical school and his general surgery residency at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston. There, he trained and conducted research with faculty in the Michael E. DeBakey Department of Surgery. He then completed fellowship training in minimally invasive and robotic surgery at Duke University Medical Center in Durham, North Carolina.

His leadership roles at Methodist Hospital Metropolitan have included Chair of Robotics and past Chair of Surgery.
